Four into Three
Hi,
I just replaced a broken marine ignition switch on my Sea Ray. The old one was a four prong but the new one is three prong.
The battery wires (red) on the old switch were connected to two terminals labeled A and B. The new switch had no A terminal, so I connected both red battery wires to the B prong. Is that correct? It seems to work, but so far I only tried it with the #2 battery.
Let me know.
Thanks.
Jeff
Jeff,
Your old ignition switch had an accessory position and had four terminals. They should be:
- B – Battery
- A – Accessory
- I – Ignition
- S – Start
Your new ignition switch doesn’t have an accessory and only has three terminals. They are:
- B – Battery
- I – Ignition
- S – Start
Connect both the A and I from the old switch to the I on the new switch. This will allow the key switch to turn off any devices that were connected to the key switch accessory position. If you keep the A and B wires connected at the B terminal, your switch will not turn off these devices.
Hope this helps,
Kevin
