Trailer Rewiring
Hello Kevin !!
I am trying to rewire a old (20yr) Venture boat trailer.
The original male plug has rusted beyond repair. It is a five wire plug. The new plug is four wire, all solid colors. The old wires have striping like brown/yellow & green/yellow along with solid white and solid green.
The white is a ground but not sure which stripe wire goes with which solid colors.

Mike,
Your new plug wiring should be
- White – Ground
- Brown – running/tail lights
- Yellow – left turn and left brake
- Green – right turn and right brake
The easiest way to determine which wires to connect together is to plug your new plug into your vehicle.
Connect the wire wires together. Connect the brown wire from your new plug to each wire separately and take notes.
- The wire that lights the brighter filament in the left light connects to the yellow wire on your new plug.
- The wire that lights the brighter filament in the right light connects to the green wire on your new plug.
- The wire that lights the dimmer filaments in both lights and all of your trailer running lights connects to the brown wire on your new plug.
Hope this helps,
Kevin
